Inaugural Blog!

Dear Fellow Blogonauts,

I am finally launching into the great online thought-scape known as the Blogosphere.  Where this journey will take me, I have no idea. To be honest, I am not even sure if I know what I am doing out here...  I suppose my vision for this blog is that each post will be an opportunity to take my head out of the score, take in the scenery, reflect on my life as an orchestra conductor, and give thanks for the life I lead as a musician.

Now, I know what you are thinking and don't worry.  When I say "give thanks", I don't mean this is going to be one of those blogs where I copy and paste my fave Bible passages or old saws from famous quote sites to make myself seem really deep and thoughtful...(This picture has already captured my deep and thoughtful side as well as how awesome my hair is- very important for conductors...)

But I am thankful to live a musician's life and I don't take enough time to acknowledge how blessed I am.  This life of dedication, sacrifice, disappointment, inspiration, discipline and devotion comes at a cost and requires TRUE PASSION.  Not passion like Romeo and Juliet or (equally as tragic, but for entirely different reasons)  Kim and Kris... but the kind of passion that means loving something so completely that you give yourself body and soul to pursuing it- knowing even as you revel in the joys of that passion, pain of some kind will surely follow.

In my opinion, living a life of true passion, pursuing that ONE THING that makes the difference between slashing your way through life as though it were a jungle and strolling through life as though it were the Garden of Eden.  For me, that passion is conducting an orchestra.  This is why my blog is called iConduct!.

For you, Blogonauts, it might be something else entirely.    I know there are musicians, artists, writers, dancers, creative and passionate people of all kinds out there who know what I am talking about.  If you feel me on this, drop me a line and comment- I would love to hear from you!
